The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility—as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department. In this role, the successful candidate executes professional nursing care in accordance with physician treatment plans in order to provide for the comfort and well-being of patients and their family or support system. In doing so, assesses the patient's needs, plans and implements the treatment plan, observes and evaluates the patient's progress and documents pertinent observations. Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary health team to meet the holistic needs of the patient. Directs the delivery of nursing care by the other members of the nursing team. Participates in the orientation process of new employees.
Job Responsibilities
- Collects patient health data by involving the patient, family, and other health care providers; performs initial assessment based on patient's presentation and records relevant data.
- Demonstrates awareness of the special needs of each age group or culture served, as well as those patients with disabilities, performing ongoing assessments as established by department policy.
- Analyzes assessment data to determine problem identification, identifies expected outcomes individualized to the patient, and incorporates discharge planning into the admission process.
- Develops a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes, collaborating with the patient, family, and appropriate healthcare providers, integrating identified cultural, ethnic, and spiritual aspects of care.
- Implements the plan of care for each patient and performs appropriate patient monitoring, adapting nursing procedures to meet individual patient needs and ensuring patient safety.
- Evaluates the patient's progress toward attainment of outcomes, documenting the patient's response to interventions and revising the plan of care as needed.
- Provides care that demonstrates ethical beliefs and respect for patient's rights, participating in activities that support customer satisfaction and the evaluation of nursing practices.
- Demonstrates the ability to maintain effective interactions with staff, contributes to the professional development of peers, and acts as a facilitator regarding patient care and unit functioning.
- Maintains knowledge base through participation in learning situations such as departmental meetings, educational programs, and journal review, complying with staff meeting attendance requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through completion of a two-year training at an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse.
- BLS certification and de-escalation training.
- ACLS (required for Emergency Dept).
- PALS and TNCC certification (within first year for Emergency Dept).
- BLS, ACLS, PALS must be through AHA.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patients and their families, demonstrating recognition of cultural diversity.
- Practice reflects customer service excellence.
- Ability to clearly communicate in verbal and written format.
- Analytical ability to assess and develop solutions to clinical situations or unit problems.
- Maintains knowledge and proficiency in the clinical area and age group served.
- Ability to frequently lift/carry more than 75 lbs.
- Ability to frequently push/pull more than 100 lbs.
- Ability to frequently bend, squat, kneel, climb steps/ladder and reach above shoulders.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 Year Critical Care Experience Preferred.
- BSN preferred.
- PALS preferred.
- Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia (e.g. CAPA) preferred.
- 1 year of nursing experience in preoperative, perioperative, or post-anesthesia care preferred.
- Experience in patient assessment, education, and care planning for pre and post-operative patients preferred.
- Prior experience in discharge planning and coordination of perioperative patients preferred.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems, including documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, and discharge instructions preferred.

Salary Information
NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $106,916.04 - $138,356.04 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
