Position Summary: Food Service Worker at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital

As a Food Service Worker at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that patients receive appropriate nourishment, trays, and food selections. This position operates under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Patient Services, contributing significantly to the patient experience and adherence to dietary plans.

Job Responsibilities

  • Updates and corrects patient menus on a timely basis, reviewing them to ensure strict adherence to prescribed diets and nutritional care plans.
  • Modifies menus in accordance with changes in diet orders, ensuring all necessary patient information like name, room number, and diet orders are accurately noted.
  • Ensures that patient's food allergies and intolerances are carefully recorded and addressed in their meal selections.
  • Visits assigned patients daily to assist with menu selections and verify dietary compliance.
  • Assures daily delivery of patient nourishments and supplements/snacks to patients' rooms as scheduled.
  • Maintains the work area in a neat and orderly manner, checking the temperature of tray line refrigerators daily and reporting any issues to the supervisor.
  • Assures refrigerators are clean, and contents are properly dated and marked for freshness (using a date dot system) or discarded if expired.
  • Actively participates in all training programs, including in-services and meetings, demonstrating understanding of instructions given.
  • Identifies and pursues a planned program for educational growth through OD&L classes and professional reading.
  • Consults regularly with the Clinical Dietitian and Supervisor regarding each patient's dietary needs and changes in patient status.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the food service operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to speak, read, and write English effectively.
  • Must be able to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • A.A. degree in Nutrition or a related major.
  • Minimum six (6) months of experience on a tray assembly line or related food service experience.
