Job Description

Registered Nurse

The Registered Nurse independently performs a wide range of duties to provide comprehensive patient care. This role involves conducting nursing assessments, obtaining and updating health information, and administering medications and treatments. You will also play a key role in developing and modifying nursing care plans, monitoring patient conditions, and collaborating with treatment teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct nursing assessments, obtain vital signs, and maintain health records.
  • Prepare, implement, and modify nursing care plans.
  • Administer medications and perform nursing procedures as prescribed.
  • Observe, monitor, and record patient symptoms and responses to treatment.
  • Serve as a nursing representative on treatment teams and consult with healthcare professionals.
  • Make clinical rounds to assess patient needs and evaluate care.
  • Provide health teaching, counseling, and education to patients and families.
  • Implement and consult on infection control protocols.
  • Maintain and update patient charts and records according to agency standards.
  • Monitor inventories and ensure adequate supplies and equipment for nursing care.
  • Provide clinical supervision and instruction to nursing staff and direct care personnel.
  • Delegate nursing activities and evaluate the provision of nursing services.
  • Act as a liaison with outside agencies and providers for continuity of care.
  • Advocate for patient needs and provide discharge planning instructions.
  • May perform supervisory duties, provide information to supervisors, and prepare reports and evaluations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State.

Additional Comments:

This position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). NY HELPS positions can be filled via non-competitive appointment, meaning no exam is required to qualify, but minimum qualifications must be met. Permanent non-competitive employment status is expected to convert to permanent competitive status within one year of appointment, without requiring an exam.

The posted salary reflects an increased hiring salary, Downstate adjustment, and geographic pay differential. The starting salary is $66,951, with potential additions up to $85,138 based on the job rate, Downstate Adjustment, and Geographic Pay Differential. Specifics are detailed in the posting.

Current New York State employees in permanent competitive qualifying titles may be eligible for permanent competitive appointment via Section 70.1 transfer. Preference is given to OPWDD employees impacted by closures. All OPWDD employees must maintain eligibility for Medicare and Medicaid programs.

Paid time off includes thirteen (13) paid holidays, thirteen (13) days of paid vacation leave, five (5) days of paid personal leave, thirteen (13) days of paid sick leave, and up to three (3) days of professional leave annually.

Health insurance programs, family dental and vision plans are offered. Paid Parental Leave of up to 12 weeks at full pay is available. Employees participate in The NYS Employees’ Retirement System (ERS). Professional development, training programs, and tuition assistance are available. Continuing education credits may be earned through the Public Service Workshops Program (PSWP).
