The Division of Family and Child Health (DFCH) at NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene supports physical and socio-emotional health, primary and reproductive health services, health equity, and social justice for NYC families and children. The division includes multiple bureaus such as Maternal Infant and Reproductive Health, Early Intervention, School Health, and Administration.

Position Overview

The Supervising Public Health Nurse provides leadership and oversight for nursing and paraprofessional staff, ensuring quality public health services in school health. The role involves scheduling, clinical supervision, data analysis, supply monitoring, and emergency response coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assigning schedules and tasks for nursing and paraprofessional staff
  • Utilizing Automated Student Health Record (ASHR) for reports
  • Conducting in-service trainings and staff development activities
  • Participating in recruitment, orientation, and disciplinary activities
  • Analyzing OSH management data for walk-ins, case management, and special projects
  • Conducting site visits for clinical supervision in schools
  • Monitoring inventory of medical supplies and equipment
  • Serving on emergency teams for bioterrorism and other emergencies

  • Expertise in planning and program development
  • Knowledge of DOHMH and DOE personnel policies

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
  • Current license and registration as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State

  • Supervisory experience is required for Assignment Levels II and III

Additional Notes

This position is open to applicants qualifying under the 55-a Program. NYC Residency is not required. The role offers a set salary of 94,826 annually.
