Job Description
Remote Sensing Technician - Ground Based
NV5 is seeking a dedicated Remote Sensing Technician to join our team. This field-based role involves acquiring airborne and geodetic ground survey data across North America. You will work with advanced sensor systems for aerial surveys, including LIDAR, thermal, hyperspectral, and multispectral imagery, as well as ground data collection using GNSS tools, water monitoring devices, thermal loggers, spherical cameras, and mobile LIDAR mapping systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Acquire airborne data using LiDAR and imagery sensor systems.
- Acquire ground data using Land Survey tools and Mobile LiDAR systems.
- Collaborate with pilots and survey crews in small aircraft, helicopters, and vehicles during data acquisition.
- Collect, download, and ship geospatial data daily.
- Complete extensive field documentation.
- Undertake extensive travel by automobile and aircraft, with work rotations targeting 16 days on, 12 days off.
- Ensure safe and secure use of company vehicles, equipment, and instrumentation.
- Troubleshoot and install sensor systems with support.
- Comply with all safety and operational policies.
Work Environment:
This position offers flexibility with NV5 Geospatial Headquarters, Regional offices, or work from home considered. Expect work rotations targeting 16 days on, followed by 12 days off, with up to 75% travel. While this position is remote, you are responsible for transportation to a primary commercial airport, after which the company provides onward travel.

Minimum Qualifications:
- A valid driver's license.
- Scientific Field experience.
- Experience with GNSS survey practices and instrumentation.
- Experience with databases and spreadsheets.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4-year degree in a physical/biological/environmental science, engineering program, or related field.
- Aviation Background.
- Ground Survey Background.
- Current CPR and basic First Aid.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Interest in GIS and remote sensing.
- Understanding of geospatial and aerial survey concepts.
- Understanding of GNSS survey methods.
- Effective technical writing and communication skills.
- Proficient in utilization of cloud-based technology.
- Capable of independent decision-making and problem-solving.
- Strong critical thinking and time management skills.
- Comfortable flying in small aircraft and driving for extensive periods across North America.
