Job Description

Role Impact and Contribution

The Jobs First Commission is seeking a Senior Data Analyst to deliver high-quality, evidence-based insights that inform policy, strategy and delivery priorities across government.

Working in a small, high-impact team, this role will analyse complex datasets from multiple sources to support labour market analysis, program design, monitoring and evaluation, and advice to senior decision makers. The role plays an important part in supporting the Commission’s work to improve employment outcomes, strengthen local jobs and ensure decisions are underpinned by robust data and analysis.

This role suits a practical, hands-on analyst who enjoys working end-to-end - from shaping analytical approaches through to delivery and implementation. You will be comfortable working across disciplines, collaborating closely with colleagues in policy, delivery, change, communications and stakeholder engagement to ensure insights are clearly communicated, understood and embedded in practice.

Key Accountabilities

  • Analysing complex quantitative and qualitative data from multiple sources to generate insights that inform policy, strategy and delivery decisions
  • Developing and delivering practical analytical products, including reports, dashboards and visualisations, that translate complex findings into clear, actionable advice
  • Applying best-practice analytical, statistical and data-quality techniques to ensure the integrity, relevance and usability of data and insights
  • Working in a hands-on, delivery-focused way, taking responsibility for end-to-end analysis rather than solely coordinating or overseeing work
  • Collaborating across disciplines including policy, change, communications, stakeholder engagement and implementation to ensure insights are clearly communicated and embedded in practice
  • Building strong stakeholder relationships and providing trusted advice on data, assumptions and limitations to support informed decision-making

You will be joining our Procurement Reform and Banking Group as part of the Jobs First Commission.

What You Can Bring to the Role

To be successful in this role you will be an experienced, outcome focused analyst with strong problem-solving skills and a demonstrated ability to work with complex datasets in a policy, strategy or delivery environment.

You will be comfortable moving between strategic thinking and practical delivery, and confident working in multidisciplinary teams. You enjoy getting into the detail, adapting your approach as needed, and working alongside colleagues in change, communications and implementation roles to turn analysis into action. An understanding of NSW Government procurement would be an advantage.

You will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in advanced data analysis, statistical techniques and data visualisation
  • Strong capability in translating complex analytical findings into clear, compelling advice
  • Experience developing or improving data systems, dashboards or analytical frameworks that support organisational objectives
  • Well-developed stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to collaborate and influence effectively
  • A proactive, flexible approach and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Tertiary qualifications in statistics, mathematics, economics, social science, data science, computer science or a related discipline (or equivalent experience) are required.

The team you will join is made up of a diverse and welcoming group of people. We understand what starting a new job is like, and to ensure you have the most positive experience we will ‘Buddy’ you up with a team member to help settle you in.
