Role impact and contribution

The Jobs First Commission is seeking an experienced Associate Director Communications, Policy and Governance to play a critical, hands‑on role in delivering high‑quality change communications, policy coordination and governance that support the Commission’s strategic objectives and delivery commitments.

Reporting to the Director, this role is responsible for developing and delivering strategic communications products, collaborating on policy and coordinating governance processes, and providing trusted advice, briefings and submissions to support executive decision‑making. This role requires a practical, delivery‑focused professional who is comfortable operating end‑to‑end — from shaping strategy and plans through to building materials and implementing them.

This role suits someone who enjoys working at pace, navigating complexity and turning strategy into action in a policy and delivery‑focused environment.

Key accountabilities include:

• Developing and implementing practical communications, policy and governance plans that support the Commission’s priorities and delivery agenda
• Creating high‑quality communications and engagement materials, including briefs, submissions, reports, presentations and supporting products for a range of audiences
• Providing clear, timely and well‑judged strategic advice on complex and sensitive policy, governance and operational issues
• Coordinating business, operational and strategic planning processes, including monitoring and reporting on progress against plans and priorities
• Supporting effective decision‑making through strong governance, risk management, quality assurance and issue management
• Leading the delivery of change and communications activities, including translating complex policy and reform into clear, accessible messages
• Building and maintaining strong working relationships with senior stakeholders across government, industry and the community to support collaboration and delivery

What you can bring to the role

The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:

• Demonstrated experience delivering communications, behavioural change, policy coordination or governance functions in a complex environment
• Strong hands‑on capability, with experience creating and implementing plans, developing materials and delivering communications and change initiatives end‑to‑end
• Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex policy and operational issues into clear, compelling and practical messages
• Proven ability to support behavioural and organisational change through effective communication, engagement and implementation
• Strong judgement and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, tight timeframes and sensitive issues
• Well‑developed stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to work closely with senior executives and diverse partners

An understanding of NSW Government procurement would be an advantage. Formal qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional experience are desirable.
