About the Role
The Senior Network and Security Engineer at NSW Department of Customer Service is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing a secure, high-performing network infrastructure. This role safeguards systems and data from cyber threats, providing daily support and technical insights, and includes managing ServiceNOW tickets, mitigating vulnerabilities, and integrating new products.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement and maintain network infrastructure components including firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, switches, and routers.
- Monitor network capacity, performance tuning and conduct Level 3 troubleshooting.
- Enforce access controls, maintain documentation and support security audits.
- Develop operational procedures and review network configuration changes.
- Analyze operational data to drive continuous improvement.
Key Challenges
Balancing proactive/reactive support, maintaining security without compromising responsiveness and staying current with emerging cybersecurity threats.
Key Knowledge and Experience
Minimum 5 years senior-level experience in network engineering; Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or related field; certifications in Cisco (CCNP, CCDP), Palo Alto, and F5 preferred; strong expertise in wireless, routing/switching, load balancing, security, data centre, WAN technologies, and cloud networking along with scripting and automation skills.
Essential Requirements
Must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident and able to participate in a 24x7 on-call roster.
