About the role
Mechanical Designer (3-5 Years Experience)
Our client is a world-class developer of state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, and is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with 3-5 years of experience to join its team in the GTA on a contract basis that has potential to move to full-time for the right candidate. In this role, you will participate in the design, integration, and verification of mechanical hardware for key technologies on world-class analytical instruments. The candidate will be part of a high-performance, multidisciplinary team engaged across multiple phases of product development. The individual will solve problems collaboratively while following established guidelines, procedures, and design practices.
Responsibilities
- Develop and design mechanical component parts and assemblies for test fixtures of advanced instrumentation modules for current and future products.
- Deliver complete work packages including CAD modeling, detailed GD&T drawings, tolerance analysis, and Bill of Material creation.
- Collaborate with the research and scientific community to generate and validate design concepts and technologies.
- Support Design Engineers by implementing detailed designs, developing design specifications, and performing analyses to demonstrate design compliance during technical reviews.
- Assist and lead design planning activities as input to the project master schedule.
- Assist in the build of mechanical modules, evaluate them against test plans, troubleshoot issues, and summarize results.
- Work closely with multiple product development groups (Electrical, Systems Engineering, Hardware Verification & Validation, and Manufacturing Engineering). Perform engineering support activities including inventory management and documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Science, or equivalent.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a relevant mechanical design role.
- Strong knowledge of CAD modeling, detailed GD&T drawings, and tolerance analysis.
- Must have hands-on experience using CATIA software for mechanical design.
- Candidate must be proactive, results-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
