Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Scientist reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine by adhering to ethical guidelines, clinical protocols, and quality standards. The role involves performing test procedures in a clinical laboratory and providing accurate and timely results for patient diagnosis and treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Responsibilities: Oversee pre-analytic workflow, verify orders and specimen details, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Specimen Handling: Collect, receive, process, label, and aliquot specimens per protocols.
  • Testing & Analysis: Execute analytical testing, maintain instrument integrity, run quality control, and interpret test results accurately.
  • Pre and Post-Analytical Duties: Prepare specimens, store appropriately, and ensure proper report generation and amendments.
  • Operational Duties: Follow SOPs, maintain safety procedures, support test development, and train new staff.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Allied Health. Certification eligibility with ASCP or equivalent is required, with mandatory certification within one year if hired after 1/19/2025.
