About the First Nations Community Coordinator Role at Northcott

As a First Nations Community Coordinator, you will support First Nations children aged 0-9 with disabilities or developmental delays. Your primary goal will be empowering their independence, fostering community inclusion, and enhancing their overall quality of life.
This is an Identified Position open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants only, under Section 14D of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
Key Responsibilities
- Build strong, respectful relationships with First Nations families, ensuring their voices and preferences guide all support.
- Undertake observations of children in their natural environment (face-to-face and/or remotely) to assess functioning and support needs.
- Support First Nations families in establishing meaningful goals and aspirations for their child and family, meticulously tracking their progress.
- Facilitate community connections and linkages to mainstream services in the local area, improving children’s access to appropriate supports and meaningful social participation.
- Operate within the framework of the Best Practice Guidelines in Early Intervention.
- Travel across Western Sydney is required to engage with families and communities in their homes.

About You: Ideal Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with First Nations children and families.
- Solid understanding of child development, specifically for children aged 0-9 years.
- Established knowledge of and connections to local First Nations communities.
- Confidence in building community networks and establishing effective service pathways.
- Ability to promote and maintain a culturally safe and supportive work environment.
- Aboriginality confirmed by a common seal and a reference from an Aboriginal organisation or community group is essential.
- A tertiary qualification in Early Childhood or Allied Health is desirable.
- Understanding of child protection principles and the 'Keep Them Safe' framework.
- Willingness and ability to travel across Western Sydney to meet job requirements.

Northcott is an NDIA partner for the NDIS Partners in the Community Program (PITC), supporting the local implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). We deliver the NDIS Early Childhood Approach (ECA) service to communities across Northern NSW, Mid North Coast, Hunter New England, North Sydney, and Western Sydney.
The EC approach focuses on activities that improve the independence and social participation of children aged 0-9 with developmental delay and/or disability, ensuring strong futures for First Nations children through culturally empowering programs and inclusive community building.
