North Star Staffing, on behalf of its client Mercor, is seeking experienced K-12 STEM or Humanities educators to contribute to a critical AI safety initiative. This remote contract opportunity partners with a leading AI research lab, allowing licensed teachers to apply their classroom expertise to develop safer, more education-aligned large language models.

Mercor is a global talent platform dedicated to training and refining advanced AI systems using human expertise. They collaborate with educators, researchers, and subject matter experts to ensure AI systems reflect high standards of pedagogy, reasoning, and safety. This role is ideal for currently active teachers, department heads, instructional coaches, or recently transitioned educators who maintain strong ties to classroom practice. Personal tutors without formal teaching roles will not be considered.

About the Role

You will leverage your classroom experience and pedagogical expertise to guide how AI systems understand instructional design, educator reasoning, and student interaction.

Key Responsibilities

• AI Training & Educational Insight: Provide expert input on standards-aligned instruction and classroom strategies. Help shape AI responses to reflect authentic educator thinking. Contribute to improving AI safety and reliability in educational contexts.
• Assessment & Content Review: Participate in structured tasks assessing clarity, pedagogy, and reasoning. Evaluate outputs through an educator lens. Articulate teaching strategies and instructional decision-making clearly.
• Commitment & Collaboration: Contribute 10–20 hours per week (expandable up to 40 hours). Complete a 2-hour assessment evaluating clarity and attention to detail. Communicate clearly in written form throughout project tasks.

Ideal Qualifications

• Licensed K-12 teacher (U.S. or international equivalent).
• 3+ years of full-time classroom teaching experience.
• Master’s degree in Education or a STEM/Humanities subject area.
• Experience designing and delivering rigorous, standards-aligned instruction.
• Strong written communication skills.
• Ability to clearly articulate thought processes and pedagogical strategies.

Ideal Backgrounds Include:

• Active public or private school teachers (STEM or Humanities).
• Department heads or instructional coaches.
• Recently transitioned teachers maintaining strong educational involvement.

Contract & Payment Details

• Independent contractor engagement.
• Fully remote and flexible schedule.
• Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise.
• Projects may expand, shorten, or conclude based on performance and demand.
