Software Engineer, Data Collection Specialist

About the Role

North Star Staffing is seeking experienced software professionals for a high-priority data collection initiative. This project aims to enhance how AI systems comprehend complex software interfaces and real-world, multi-step workflows. The focus is on capturing authentic, expert-level usage of professional software tools through high-quality screen recordings and detailed interface annotations. The collected data will significantly advance AI systems' understanding of digital work environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Record screen sessions demonstrating specific tasks with clear verbal narration.
• Annotate screenshots by drawing precise bounding boxes around relevant UI elements.
• Follow staging instructions to configure specific UI states prior to recording.
• Use a custom capture tool to accurately document workflows.
• Adhere strictly to task guidelines to ensure high-quality, usable data.

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with one or more of the following tools: Blender, Godot, GIMP, R, Wings 3D.
• Access to a physical Mac (ability to create a fresh macOS user profile if required).
• Fluent English communication skills.
• High attention to detail.
• Ability to follow structured instructions precisely.
• Comfortable working independently and meeting deadlines.

Nice-to-Have

• Prior experience in data annotation, QA, or structured data collection.
• Experience recording workflows or creating tutorial-style documentation.
• Familiarity with staged or controlled software environments.

• Clear, expert-level screen recordings demonstrating realistic workflows.
• Efficient task completion without sacrificing quality.
• Deliverables usable at scale for AI research and development.

Contract & Payment Details

• Independent contractor engagement.
• Fully remote with flexible scheduling.
• Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise.
• Project duration may vary based on performance and business needs.
• No access to confidential or proprietary employer information required.
