Role Overview for Software Development Expert

One of North Star Staffing's clients, Mercor, is actively seeking experienced software development professionals to contribute to a critical data collection initiative. This project involves collaboration with leading AI research labs, focusing on capturing authentic real-world development and programming workflows. The primary goal is to enhance AI systems' comprehension of intricate software interfaces, engineering tools, and multi-step technical processes. Your contributions as a Software Development Expert will directly facilitate the training and evaluation of next-generation AI systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Record screen sessions, clearly demonstrating development and programming workflows with concurrent verbal narration explaining each step.
• Precisely annotate screenshots of professional development software by drawing bounding boxes around relevant UI elements.
• Follow provided staging instructions to correctly configure specific UI states before recording.
• Utilize custom capture tools to ensure accurate and consistent workflow recordings.
• Strictly adhere to task guidelines to maintain high data quality, consistency, and usability.
• Deliver outputs suitable for large-scale AI research and subsequent model training.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with professional development and programming tools, including Visual Studio Code, Android Studio, Quartus, and VMware.
• Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to meticulously follow precise technical instructions.
• Comfortable working autonomously and capable of meeting tight deadlines.
• Fluent English communication skills are essential.
• Access to a physical Mac and the ability to create a fresh macOS user profile if necessary.

Nice to Have

• Prior experience in data collection, annotation, or quality assurance work.
• Experience with recording or documenting development workflows.
• Comfort working with new tools and staged environments.

Engagement Details

• This is a fully remote, asynchronous independent contractor role.
• Offers a flexible working schedule.
• Project duration may vary and can be extended, shortened, or concluded based on performance and project needs.
• Work encompasses screen recording, UI annotation, and workflow documentation.

Compensation & Contract Terms

• Hourly compensation is aligned with task scope and expertise.
• Payments are issued weekly via Stripe or Wise.
• Engagement is on an independent contractor basis.
• No access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution is required.
• H1-B and STEM OPT candidates cannot be supported at this time.

Eligibility

Applicants must be legally authorized to work as independent contractors in their country of residence.
