Job Summary
Norfolk Constabulary is seeking a proactive and well-organised Data Protection Assistant to effectively manage data protection activities. This role involves ensuring compliance with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and internal policies by providing essential administrative and coordination support to the Data Protection team.
You will play a crucial role in the Information Management team, helping meet statutory obligations under data protection legislation. Key responsibilities include researching police information systems, handling information requests from the public and external organisations, and offering clear advice on individual rights and access to information.
Strong communication, excellent customer service experience, and the ability to collaborate effectively with partners, the public, and staff at all levels are essential for this position. Candidates should also possess practical knowledge of Data Protection, demonstrate effective workload management, and thrive in a team environment.
Essential Criteria
- Practical knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR, and/or other relevant legislation, including Management of Police Information (MOPI) statutory guidance.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Good planning skills, with the ability to effectively manage and organise a multiple caseload with competing priorities, whilst adhering to strict deadlines.
- Experience in a customer service role, particularly in dealing with sensitive and emotional situations.
- Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision and also as part of a wider team.
- Demonstrated ability to produce accurate letters and disclosures.
- Excellent keyboard skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and experience of learning and using bespoke computer systems and databases.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of working in a policing environment.
- Ability to travel as required throughout Norfolk and Suffolk and to other appropriate locations.
Work Arrangement
This is a permanent, full-time position with hours of work at 37 per week, Monday to Friday. The team currently operates a hybrid work pattern, offering a mix of office and home working (optional).
