About the Role

The FOI Manager is a key role within the External Affairs team of the Communications Team, part of the Strategy Directorate at NHS England. This position is responsible for delivering NHS England’s statutory responsibilities regarding Freedom of Information (FOI) legislation. The role offers the opportunity to develop skills beyond the routine handling of FOI requests by supporting both senior managers and case officers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on Information Commissioner Office (ICO) complaint case work and respond to ICO investigations.
  • Oversee the Internal Review process.
  • Manage complex casework in collaboration with Case Officers/Senior Case Officer.
  • Support the Senior Management Team with tribunal-related work.
  • Assist with training and cover for the Senior FOI Manager during leave.
  • Handle general FOI requests as needed.

Team and Reporting

The position reports to the Senior FOI Manager and involves management responsibility for case officers within the FOI team. The manager will liaise with senior leaders, including interactions with the Chief Executive’s office.

Integration and Onboarding

Successful candidates may undergo an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR), which retrieves key employment data from previous NHS employers.
