Role Overview for Software Expert, Operating Systems

Nexus Consulting is seeking experienced software professionals with deep operating system expertise to support a high-priority data collection initiative for a client. This collaborative effort involves leading AI research labs and focuses on capturing realistic, expert-level software workflows. Your contribution will directly enhance how AI systems understand complex operating system interfaces and multi-step professional tasks, leading to the development of high-fidelity datasets for next-generation AI models.

Key Responsibilities

• Record screen sessions demonstrating operating system workflows with clear verbal narration explaining each step.
• Annotate screenshots by accurately drawing bounding boxes around relevant UI elements.
• Follow provided staging instructions to configure specific UI states prior to recording.
• Use custom capture tools to record workflows consistently and accurately.
• Adhere strictly to task guidelines to ensure data quality and downstream usability.
• Deliver high-quality outputs suitable for large-scale AI research and model training.

Qualifications

To be successful as a Software Expert, Operating Systems, you should possess:

• Strong hands-on experience with one or more operating systems, including: Windows, macOS, Linux.
• Ability to follow precise instructions and meet quality standards.
• Strong attention to detail and independent working capability.
• Fluent English communication skills.
• Access to a physical Mac and ability to create a fresh macOS user profile if required.

Nice to Have

• Prior experience with data collection, annotation, or quality assurance work.
• Experience documenting or recording technical workflows.
• Comfort working with new tools and staged environments.

Engagement Details

• Fully remote, asynchronous independent contractor role.
• Flexible working schedule.
• Project duration may vary and can be extended based on performance and project needs.
• Work includes screen recording, UI annotation, and workflow documentation.

Compensation & Contract Terms

This is an hourly contract position with compensation aligned to task scope and expertise. Payments are issued weekly via Stripe or Wise. This is strictly an independent contractor engagement, and no access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution is provided. H1-B and STEM OPT candidates cannot be supported at this time.

Eligibility

Applicants must be legally authorized to work as independent contractors in their country of residence.
