The Role

Newsela is seeking a Senior Learning Experience Designer to build high-quality curricula at scale. This role demands extensive knowledge of state framework-aligned curriculum creation, experience from a core curriculum provider, and an ability to provide expert input on assessments, lesson plans, training, and documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and review K-12 ELA curricula and assessments.
  • Collaborate with internal and external curriculum teams.
  • Create guidelines for vendor-developed content.
  • Provide expert feedback on instructional strategies and lesson plans.
  • Manage projects and scale review processes effectively.
  • Hire, train, and work with external contributors.

Subject Matter Expertise:

  • Expertise in ELA curriculum for middle and high school.
  • Experience with state frameworks, especially in California.
  • Knowledge of scaffolds for multilingual learners.
  • Familiarity with best practices for accessibility.

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years experience in curriculum development or instructional design.
  • Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Education, English, or related field.
  • Experience with curriculum development software and content management systems.

Compensation: Base salary between $70,000 and $80,000 per year, plus incentive stock options and benefits.
