Overview

The Registered Nurse 2 Psychiatric role provides clinical consultation, training, supervision, and nursing care to individuals with mental illness in facilities operated by the New York State Office of Mental Health.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric nursing care
  • Offer clinical consultation and training on psychiatric nursing
  • Supervise care plans for individuals with mental illness
  • Engage in patient care in various OMH facilities and programs

Additional Requirements & Notes

Candidates must maintain active nursing licensure and registration in New York State. Failure to do so, or getting listed on any Federal/State exclusion lists, may result in termination. Appointment may require enrolling as a Medicare provider, obtaining a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number, and meeting billing requirements for Medicare and Medicaid.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current New York State nursing license and registration, with two years of post-licensure clinical experience working with individuals diagnosed with mental illness, addiction, or substance use disorder. A bachelor’s degree in nursing may substitute one year, and a master’s degree may substitute two years of experience.

Compensation & Benefits

The compensation structure includes a statutory hiring rate, increase hiring rate, and geographic pay differential. Additional compensation applies based on shift assignment (7% evening and 10% night shift differential). Benefits include NYS medical, dental, vision, tuition assistance, paid time off (vacation, personal days, holidays, sick leave) and NYS retirement programs. Background checks are required.
