About New York Post

The New York Post, the nation’s oldest newspaper, boasts a dynamic and ambitious video department dedicated to making its mark in digital video. We aim to create memorable content and new viewing habits, reflecting our legacy of bold, irreverent, judgmental, confident, and clever headlines. We surprise viewers with stories that appreciate both serious and quirky narratives.

The New York Post video team is actively seeking a Sports Production Assistant for a new daily live sports show with national scope. This role is pivotal in assisting all facets of daily production, focusing on creating compelling, shareable videos and promoting the show across various social platforms to drive tune-in and engagement.

We are looking for a candidate with extensive knowledge and passion for a wide array of sports, including major leagues, emerging sports, gambling, esports, fantasy, and current New York sports news. In line with our publication’s mantra, you believe news doesn’t have to be boring and appreciate odd, unconventional, as well as important stories. This is a unique opportunity to join an iconic media brand experiencing exponential digital growth, with over a billion video views across platforms in the past year.

Responsibilities of a Sports Production Assistant

  • Assist in all aspects of daily production for a nationally distributed live sports show.
  • Produce compelling, shareable short-form video clips to drive tune-in and audience engagement.
  • Lead the creation of thumbnails, headlines, and other visual/packaging elements optimized for digital and social platforms.
  • Manage and execute interactive promotion of show content across social media channels.
  • Socialize show clips strategically to maximize reach, viewership, and engagement.
  • Ensure smooth day-to-day production workflows while managing multiple simultaneous tasks.
  • Collaborate with producers and team members to generate ideas and contribute to daily show brainstorming.
  • Support the production of digitally native video content tailored to platform-specific audiences.
  • Apply deep knowledge of sports—including major leagues, emerging sports, gambling, esports, and fantasy—to content creation and promotion.
  • Identify and help elevate unconventional, entertaining, and newsworthy sports stories in line with the publication’s brand voice.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a digital/sports newsroom environment.
  • Encyclopedic sports knowledge including upstart sports, fantasy, and esports; ability to pitch, produce, and script content.
  • Ability to polish on-camera talent.
  • Ability to work closely with internal stakeholders and reporters.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Experience creating video for social platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, X, and more is a plus.
  • Strong news judgment and a track record of successful video production.
  • Ability to implement best practices for video metadata, thumbnails, and discovery on all videos.
  • Fluency with key tools in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects) is also a plus.
  • Familiarity with the New York Post and its writing style.
  • Ability to use web analytics to monitor audience engagement with videos and strategize for growth on various platforms.
