Role Summary
As part of this bold expansion, we are seeking two Social Media Editors to join The California Post team. Reporting to the Senior Social Media Editor, this crucial role will manage the daily social media presence for The California Post. You will ensure our coverage is timely, highly engaging, and strategically tailored to maximize reach and impact. The Social Media Editor will be responsible for publishing and scheduling posts, monitoring breaking news, and amplifying top stories with intelligent framing and creative execution. This position demands deep expertise in social media trends, analytics, and platform best practices, coupled with the creativity to develop fresh ideas that boost engagement and strengthen brand presence. You will collaborate closely with content creators and senior editorial leaders to effectively connect all content with its target audience.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily posting and scheduling for California Post social media accounts, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the day’s top stories.
- Write, edit, and tailor posts to maximize engagement and reach across various social platforms.
- Monitor real-time analytics and utilize performance insights to inform publishing decisions.
- Stay abreast of social and cultural trends, adapting content strategies to drive growth.
- Pitch creative ideas for social-first projects that expand reach and showcase The Post’s journalism in innovative ways.
- Participate in short, on-camera video content for social media platforms, including brief explainers, commentary, or promotional clips.
- Collaborate with editorial teams to align coverage and promote content effectively across platforms.
- Engage with audiences where appropriate and help establish best practices for community interactions.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional experience managing social media for a news organization.
- Proven expertise with all major social media platforms, scheduling tools, and analytics dashboards.
- Strong editorial judgment and the ability to quickly assess what content will perform well with audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to create compelling, platform-specific content in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
- Deep understanding of SEO and social search optimization strategies.
- Proficiency in video and photo editing software, including Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, and Canva, with a portfolio demonstrating high-quality editing and creative execution.
- Creative, resourceful, and proactive with a track record of growing engagement and reach.
- A strong social media presence or following is preferred.
- Ability and willingness to appear on camera and deliver news content clearly and concisely on deadline is highly preferred.
- Must be flexible and adaptable as news demands shift, including availability to work evenings, weekends, and during breaking news events when needed.
- Please note: Candidates based in Los Angeles or New York are required to work in office five days per week. Candidates located in San Francisco or Sacramento are eligible for remote work. All work arrangements are subject to change based on business needs.
- The shift options for these roles are Tuesday-Saturday (10am-6pm PST) and Monday-Friday (12pm-8pm PST).

In addition to competitive compensation (Pay Range: $70,000 - $85,000), eligible employees receive a comprehensive and highly competitive benefits package covering physical health, retirement and savings, caregiving, emotional well-being, transportation, and elective benefits to suit diverse needs.
