Job Description
Pay Range: $68,000 - $98,468 per year
Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care for patients, adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. This role requires knowledge of physiological, psychological, developmental, and age-specific differences in the patient population, including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. The Registered Nurse collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide for assessment and therapeutic management of patient and family needs.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
- Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding their status and medical history.
- Collect and record nursing assessment and interventions, reviewing and reporting results of health status assessments, physical examinations, pertinent laboratory data, radiographic data, and psychosocial assessments to the provider.
- Assess patient and family needs and provide teaching and other instructional material, along with psychosocial support.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Prepare and administer therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician, including learning how to mix chemotherapy/immunotherapy.
- Administer all medications by correct dosage/amount, route, time, and technique.
- Assure pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to administration of therapies where applicable.
- Facilitate dose modification by assessing the patient and labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting with the physician regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management.
- Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central line catheter devices.
- Maintain accurate documentation of assigned patient care and treatments provided.
- Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture.
- Restock the supply area as needed.
- Follow OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste, and any other material potentially infected with a bloodborne pathogen.
- Maintain all disinfection protocols and equipment according to quality control standards.
- Facilitate clinical operations and patient care, managing patient medication refill requests and recording information in the patient chart.
- Assist physicians with exams and procedures, maintaining efficient and appropriate patient flow in and out of exam rooms.
- Triage patient phone calls as needed, documenting relevant information in the patient's chart.
- As necessary, facilitate communication between patient/family and the interdisciplinary team and coordinate services related to patient care.
- Assist patients in locating available community resources.
- Assist and collaborate with clinical research; act as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.
- Provide nursing coverage for satellite offices as needed.
- Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge of oncology nursing by participating in ongoing educational opportunities.
Minimum Job Qualifications
Education/Training
- Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred or required unless grandfathered in.
- RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state (New York).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Must maintain continuing education requirements.
Experience
- 0-3 years nursing experience, preferably at least one year in oncology.
