Overview

The Direct Support Staff is responsible for all aspects of resident care as well as routine residence maintenance. This role requires direct interaction with residents and adherence to various policies and procedures.

Scope of Responsibility

Provide comprehensive direct care and support, assist in daily living activities, and maintain the residence. Responsibilities include personal care, documentation, and following individual care plans.

Working Relationship

Reports directly to the Manager and Lead Direct Support Staff. Develops relationships with residents, agency professionals, co-workers, and the community.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Obtain and maintain medication certification
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Maturity, good judgment, and ability to handle confidential information
  • Proficiency in First Aid, CPR, PMT, Abuse/Neglect, and DDS Medication Administration
  • Competence in basic computer skills; electronic health records experience preferred
  • Valid Connecticut Driver’s License and eligibility for auto insurance
  • Physical ability to assist participants (lifting, using adaptive equipment, and approved restraint techniques)
  • Proficiency in electronic health record system THERAP

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide direct resident care according to individual plans including ADLs, communication, and behavioral plan implementation.
  • Participate in routine residence maintenance and safeguard residents’ belongings and funds.
  • Accurately document care activities and maintain electronic health records.
  • Assist with meal preparation and partake in staff in-services and meetings.
  • Observe resident rights and adhere to all policies and procedures.
  • Cover shifts for vacations, absences, or emergencies as required.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary.

Work Schedule

Sunday: 2:00pm-10:00pm, Monday to Thursday: 3:00pm-10:00pm

Full-Time: 36 hours/week
