Overview

The Direct Support Staff is responsible for all aspects of resident care as well as routine residence maintenance. The role involves providing direct care, documenting activities, and maintaining relationships with residents, family members, and a diverse care team.

Working Relationships

This role reports directly to the Manager and the Lead Direct Support Staff on duty. Key interactions include residents, co-workers, Agency Nurses, Agency Behaviorists, residents’ families or guardians, Healthcare Consultants, DDS employees, and community members.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Must obtain and maintain medication certification.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Maturity, sound judgment, and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in First Aid, CPR, PMT, Abuse/Neglect, DDS Medication Administration, and resident-specific needs.
  • Basic computer skills; electronic health records experience preferred.
  • Valid Connecticut Driver’s License and eligibility for auto insurance.
  • Physical capability to assist participants, including lifting and using adaptive equipment.
  • Ability to use the electronic health record system THERAP.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide direct resident care as outlined in individual plans; document activities properly.
  • Assist with routine residence maintenance.
  • Safeguard and handle residents’ belongings and funds.
  • Maintain comprehensive electronic health records including assessments, task analyses, medication documentation, and attendance.
  • Participate in meal preparation as needed.
  • Attend all required in-services and staff meetings.
  • Adhere to residents' rights and all community residence policies.
  • Cover coworker absences and emergency staffing as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident and residence records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

  • Sunday: 2:00pm - 8:00pm
  • Monday: 2:00pm - 8:00pm
  • Friday: 3:00pm - 10:00pm
  • Saturday: 2:00pm - 10:00pm
  • Part-Time Over: 27 hours/week
