About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Product Design Engineer III to join our dynamic team at Mate Precision Technologies. This role involves designing and developing innovative products that address real customer challenges within manufacturing environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching, engineering, and creating standard and custom product platforms that meet high standards of quality, manufacturability, cost, safety, and delivery. Collaboration across various departments such as manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and sales is essential to bring ideas from concept through to production. The role also emphasizes innovation, including supporting patent activities, identifying new product ideas, and ensuring compliance with intellectual property laws. The engineer will oversee projects from initial concept to implementation, evaluate product performance through testing and prototyping, and recommend improvements to enhance functionality and reduce costs. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that make a tangible impact on manufacturing processes worldwide.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 10 or more years of relevant engineering experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
• At least 5 years of experience working in manufacturing settings, demonstrating practical application of engineering principles.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD systems, mechanical drafting, and GD&T standards.
• Strong understanding of mechanical assemblies, mechanism design, and material properties, including metallurgy and metallurgical processes.
• Experience utilizing engineering tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to solve complex problems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation.
• Familiarity with machining, metrology methods, and quality control processes is a plus.
• Experience with U.S. and international patent processes is advantageous.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

The Product Design Engineer III will research, engineer, and design both standard and custom product platforms tailored to customer needs while balancing quality, manufacturability, and cost considerations. Responsibilities include evaluating market and customer feedback, analyzing design feasibility, and creating mechanical assemblies and components suitable for real-world manufacturing environments. The role involves managing engineering projects from conception through to implementation, collaborating closely with manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and sales teams, as well as external partners. The engineer will coordinate testing and prototyping activities, evaluate product performance, and recommend design modifications to improve functionality, durability, and cost efficiency. Additionally, the engineer will play a vital part in innovation initiatives, supporting patent activities, identifying new product opportunities, and ensuring compliance with intellectual property laws to avoid infringement. Success in this role requires a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve project goals.
