The Opportunity
As a Senior Data Scientist, Infrastructure Availability, you will join a data organization comprising Analytics Engineers, Data Engineers, and Data Scientists. This team partners with infrastructure engineering teams to develop metrics, build tools, perform analyses, and make data-driven recommendations to enhance the reliability and availability of Netflix's systems. You will collaborate closely with professionals in data science, software engineering, performance engineering, and technical product management.
Your work will involve developing metrics to assess current performance across various systems and product domains, defining adequate performance standards, understanding the root causes of availability issues, and making strategic recommendations for prioritizing system performance improvements. The ideal candidate will excel in metric research and development, statistical modeling, causal inference, and possess a strong passion for continuously improving Netflix's infrastructure through data.

In This Role, You Will
- Develop metrics to measure the availability, reliability, and performance of Netflix’s infrastructure stack.
- Partner with Data Engineering, Data Science, and Analytics Engineers to productionize system-level availability metrics and dashboards.
- Collaborate with Software Engineers, Performance Engineers, Technical Product Managers, and other product teams to conduct root cause and causal inference analysis of availability issues, making recommendations for remediation.
- Connect with the broader analytics community at Netflix to increase visibility for your work.
About You
- Experienced in metric development and measurement within the domain of system reliability/availability for large, distributed systems, platforms, and/or infrastructure.
- Fluent in at least one analytics and scripting language like Python.
- Experienced in engineering data pipelines and ETL using languages like SQL and workflow orchestration tools like Apache Airflow.
- Passionate about using data to guide strategic decision-making.
- An exceptional communicator, adept at storytelling with data to both technical and non-technical audiences, including stakeholders at all levels.
- Experienced in building strong relationships with stakeholders and colleagues to tackle complex, cross-functional problems.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and thrive with minimal oversight and process.
- A strong product thinker with good product sense, able to identify partner needs and develop effective solutions.
Compensation and Benefits
Netflix's compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary, without bonuses. You have the flexibility to choose how much of your compensation is allocated to salary versus stock options each year. Compensation is determined by market indicators, your job family, background, skills, and experience. The salary range for this role is $372,000.00 - $600,000.00, which may vary by location.
Comprehensive benefits include Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. Paid leave of absence programs are also offered. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off; full-time salaried employees are immediately entitled to flexible time off.
