The Opportunity

The Merch & Algo Performance team focuses on maximizing member joy and engagement by improving and optimizing content distribution on our platform. We are seeking a talented Senior Data Scientist with strong statistics and causal inference experience to understand how content promotion and personalization algorithms interact. The distribution, promotion, and personalization of content are crucial for members to discover and choose content they enjoy.

Role Overview

As a Senior Data Scientist, Content Promotion & Discovery Performance, you will collaborate with business leaders responsible for content and product promotion, Product, Engineering, and AI for Member System teams, and other diverse stakeholders. Your insights from analytics, experiments, causal inference, and ML/AI methods will shape strategy and deliver significant impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leverage causal inference methods and statistically sound analyses to generate actionable insights, enhancing our understanding of how product, content, and algorithms influence member content discovery.
  • Develop statistically and causally robust metrics and measurement frameworks to empower stakeholder decision-making and drive product features that increase member joy.
  • Build strong partnerships with team members and diverse stakeholders across the business to foster collaboration.
  • Ensure the team produces trustworthy and high-quality outputs that influence decisions and strategic direction across various areas of Netflix.
  • Proactively explore trends in content discovery to identify future opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Work independently and take ownership of your projects from conception to completion.

Required Qualifications

  • An advanced degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in one or more data science roles.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to develop meaningful stakeholder relationships and deep domain expertise.
  • Expertise in statistical analysis methods, particularly causal inference, statistical learning, and experimentation methods.
  • Strong quantitative programming skills in languages such as Python and proficiency in data manipulation using SQL.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a proven ability to thrive with minimal oversight and process.

Compensation & Benefits

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary, without bonuses. You choose annually how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. Compensation is determined by market indicators, job family, background, skills, and experience within a market range. The range for this role is $372,000.00 - $600,000.00, which may vary based on location.

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off; full-time salaried employees are immediately entitled to flexible time off.
