Your role
As the Director of Engineering, you will provide high-level executive leadership focused on technical excellence, high availability, and the automation of complex financial processes.- Strategic Leadership: Play a pivotal role in defining the technical vision and scaling the capabilities of our SaaS platform across the organization.
- Roadmap Management: Own the technical planning and strategic vision for your business domain, ensuring alignment with overall company objectives.
- Growth and Mentorship: Lead and grow an organization of over 30 engineers, directly manage multiple engineering managers, and foster a culture of high performance, accountability, and professional development.
- Operational Excellence: Oversee the development and operation of critical financial systems, ensuring strict transactional integrity, zero data loss, and real-time reconciliation.
- Reliability and SRE: Establish and enforce world-class Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices to achieve ultra-high availability and rapid incident resolution.
- Security and Compliance: Collaborate with security and compliance departments to ensure systems are audit-ready and security controls (e.g., encryption, access management) are strictly enforced.
- Executive Communication: Clearly communicate technical strategy, platform operational health, and risks to the VP of Engineering and other executive stakeholders.
The ideal candidate
- Leadership Experience: Proven experience leading an engineering organization of 30+ people, including strong expertise in managing managers.
- SaaS Expertise: Hands-on experience building and operating highly available SaaS platforms within FinTech or other highly regulated industries.
- Technical Acumen: Deep understanding of immutable data models, ledger systems, and financial reconciliation logic.
- Architectural Mastery: Demonstrated expertise in Event-Driven Architecture (EDA), including hands-on experience with message brokers (e.g., Kafka, Pub/Sub, SQS/SNS), event sourcing, and the CQRS pattern.
- Compliance Culture: Expertise in maintaining compliance standards (e.g., SOC 2, PCI DSS) by implementing technical controls directly within engineering processes.
- Reliability Focus: Strong experience in defining and meeting rigorous Service Level Objectives (SLOs), as well as managing Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Plans (BCP).
- Influence: Exceptional communication skills, comfortable presenting complex technical data to leadership and influencing cross-functional partners.
