Position Summary
The Communications Associate provides day-to-day communications support for Nava’s Federal Civilian (FedCiv), State, and Federal Health (FedHealth) portfolios. This role is focused on executional communications work, particularly press support, media coordination, and content development in order to help advance portfolio priorities and leadership visibility.
Working closely with senior communications partners, portfolio leaders, and subject matter experts, the Communications Associate helps translate complex work into clear, accessible messaging for external audiences. This position requires exceptional attention to detail and a passion for delivering impactful messaging across various channels.

What you'll do
Portfolio Communications Support
- Provide communications support for the FedCiv, State, and FedHealth portfolios, including drafting, editing, and coordinating materials for external audiences
- Support portfolio leads and senior communicators with press-related needs, including background documents, briefing materials, and follow-up coordination.
- Help translate technical or programmatic work into clear, audience-appropriate messaging.
- Track portfolio communications needs and deadlines, ensuring timely execution and follow-through.
- Maintain shared documents, trackers, and calendars related to portfolio communications work.
Media Relations and Press Support
- Draft and edit press releases, media pitches, talking points, and Q&A documents.
- Support media outreach by maintaining press lists, coordinating interviews, and managing logistics.
- Monitor media coverage relevant to Nava’s portfolio work and flag opportunities or risks to senior communications staff.
- Assist with rapid-response communications as needed.
Content Development
- Support social media execution as needed (e.g., adapting press or blog content for social channels)
- Ensure consistency with Nava’s voice, tone, and messaging guidelines.
Events and Thought Leadership Support
- Support communications needs for portfolio-related events, including briefings, roundtables, and conferences.
- Assist with drafting speaker bios, session descriptions, and post-event recaps.
- Coordinate with internal teams to amplify thought leadership opportunities tied to portfolio work.
Analytics and Reporting
- Monitor, analyze, and report on communication activities and metrics to measure the effectiveness of communication strategies and identify areas for improvement.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- 2+ years of experience in community engagement, marketing operations, CRM management, or a related field.
- Experience supporting marketing or communications campaigns through CRM tools.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and manage competing priorities.
Compensation
$79,650—$90,000 USD
Other Requirements
All roles at Nava require the following:
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Ability to meet any other requirements for government contracts for which candidates are hired
- Work authorization that doesn’t require visa sponsorship, now or in the future
- May be subject to a government background check or security clearance, depending on the contract
- This role requires you to work from the contiguous United States.
