Nationwide is seeking a passionate Senior Consultant, Corporate Strategy to drive strategy forward through innovative product development and advancing strategic partnerships. This role provides strategic support and advisory at the Property & Casualty group level, translating business performance, customer insights, and leadership perspectives into clear updates, presentations, and recommendations for senior leaders. You will lead special projects to explore new strategic opportunities across Property & Casualty, requiring close coordination across teams to gather input, conduct research, synthesize recommendations, align messaging, and ensure materials are accurate and useful for decision-making. This position contributes to longer-term strategic priorities tied to growth, underwriting, customer experience, and the use of artificial intelligence.
Job Description Summary
The Office of Corporate Strategy at Nationwide assists executive leadership across Property Casualty, Financial Services, and Corporate Development in strategic decision-making to maximize company value while supporting Nationwide’s mission and vision. As a Senior Consultant, you will act as an engagement manager, advising and guiding executives through critical industry challenges without the extensive travel of traditional management consulting. You will lead assignments with profit & loss owners and key stakeholders across Nationwide’s business portfolio, requiring strong relationship-building skills, the ability to distill results-oriented strategies from complex issues, and facilitation of decisions with support from a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
- Partners with business leaders to identify, evaluate, and pursue strategic opportunities, including organic growth, new business line development, and operating model redesign.
- Leads strategic projects for the Office of the CEO (OCEO), Management Committee, or business unit leadership teams to successfully realize opportunities, defining where to play, how to win, and necessary trade-offs.
- Organizes, facilitates, and leads project teams from corporate and business unit functions to drive business results.
- Advises and coordinates the corporate or business-level strategy planning process, developing three-year strategic plans with financial implications.
- Establishes and implements mechanisms to translate strategic plans into business unit operational plans.
- Interprets financial, statistical, and other data to assess the impact and efficacy of defined strategies.
- Coordinates the consultation, preparation, and communication of evaluation findings and recommendations to all levels of management, including the Board of Directors and OCEO.
- Establishes and maintains external relationships with industry specialists and thought leaders to foster internal innovation and strategic vision.
- Engages in continuous improvement of the department, self, and others, actively developing associates in problem-solving, communication, and other professional areas.
- May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships
Reports to an Associate Vice President or Vice President, Strategic Planning. Typically an individual contributor, with potential opportunities to lead teams of two to 15 people.
Typical Skills and Experiences
- Education: Demonstrated academic success. MBA or equivalent is preferred. Proven knowledge of strategy planning, project management tools, concepts, and methodologies.
- Experience: Significant leadership experience with strategic projects, either from a top-tier consulting firm or a Fortune 100 strategy planning group. Proven ability to leverage business and industry knowledge. Solid understanding of the insurance industry is preferred.
- Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills, including structuring problems, identifying core issues, articulating problem statements, leading problem-solving discussions, and separating issues into discrete work streams. Demonstrated competency in clearly presenting thoughts and ideas verbally and in writing. Ability to provide impactful advice and solutions, building effective partnerships with business partners and ensuring aligned priorities. Proficiency in strategy professional approaches and tools, with strong project management skills (scope definition, time management, cost analysis, human resources management, risk assessment). Ability to handle large, complex projects and lead engaged, high-performing project teams.

Compensation
The national salary range for Senior Consultant, Corporate Strategy is $149,000.00 - $262,000.00. The expected starting salary range for this position is $149,000.00 - $223,000.00. Placement within this range depends on skills, education, experience, and location.
