Job Description

Director of Accounting, Financial Reporting and Compliance at National Football League (NFL)

This Director role reports into the Global Controller and is responsible for overseeing all external financial reporting, ensuring accuracy in financial records, maintaining compliance with relevant regulations and company policies, and ensuring compliance with relevant technical accounting guidance. The Director of Accounting, Financial Reporting and Compliance provides accounting guidance for complex business transactions, including revenue transactions, vendor agreements, acquisitions, and investments, while establishing and maintaining appropriate company policies. This role offers oversight of key accounting processes, ensures adherence to established internal control policies, and supports both internal and external reporting requirements. Collaboration with cross-functional departments is essential to support financial reporting, audits, and local compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all external financial reporting and manage audit cycles effectively.
  • Prepare financial reports and lead the coordination of 3rd party audit requests.
  • Drive strategic, broad-based initiatives to achieve business results.
  • Establish and monitor internal controls, including responses to internal audit cycles.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP/IFRS) and internal control frameworks.
  • Maintain accountability for technical accounting, internal control monitoring, and territory compliance, including local reporting and statutory audits.
  • Assist in financial decision-making by offering accounting advice for complex business transactions.
  • Collaborate with the team to create accounting memos supporting US and International accounting conclusions, coordinating with external auditors for approval.
  • Provide oversight to financial reporting and technical accounting staff.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, demonstrating credibility as a trusted advisor to business partners and senior leadership on complex technical matters.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation, or active CPA candidacy, is preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP/IFRS, internal controls, and financial reporting standards.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for partnering across departments and functions.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud ERP or similar systems is a plus.

Expected Hours Of Work

Employees are required to work a minimum of 40 hours per week in the office. This role will require additional hours as needed, including late nights and weekends.

Salary / Pay Range

The NFL offers a competitive salary range of $150,000 to $190,000 USD. The NFL typically hires near the middle of this range, reserving the higher end for truly exceptional candidates with experience and credentials far exceeding expectations.

Work Environment

In-person work at NFL offices is prioritized for collaboration, connection, and culture. This role requires onsite presence at an NFL office or stadium location, with no remote or hybrid working options available. Relocation assistance will not be provided.
