Position Summary
The 2026 NBA Summer Internship is a 10-week program running from June 8 – August 14, 2026. Interns will learn about basketball, develop career skills, and contribute to meaningful projects across NBA departments and affiliated leagues including WNBA, G League, and NBA 2K.
Interns must exhibit excellent academic standing, strong written and verbal communication skills, and leadership as demonstrated through extracurricular or community activities.
Role Overview
Selected interns will be placed in departments focused on technology, digital products, data strategy, and analytics. This includes Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) products such as NBA League Pass, the NBA App, and NBA ID; Information Technology for system design and maintenance; and the Data and Basketball Strategy & Analytics teams.
Projects may involve software development, programming, bug fixes, data analysis, interface design, performance improvements, revenue and viewer optimization, and more.
Major Responsibilities
- Collaborate on digital products to improve fan experience.
- Create and maintain user interfaces with seamless performance.
- Coordinate with data engineers and analysts for model development.
- Design statistical analyses and visualizations related to league trends.
- Write TypeScript/JavaScript code for NBA digital products.
- Perform trend analyses and generate summary reports.
- Follow workflow processes, automations, and integrations.
- Identify and resolve technical issues across platforms.
- Integrate data using APIs to enhance site content.
- Synthesize business requirements for scalable solutions.
Required Education & Professional Experience
Current enrollment in a graduate degree program in Technology or Data Science. Majors include Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, Engineering, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Marketing Analytics, Marketing Research, or Sports Analytics.
Preferred Skills & Knowledge Attributes
- Strong understanding of technology and software development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with probability, statistics, and creative problem solving.
- Exposure to relational databases, SQL, and scripting languages such as Python or R.
- Experience in software engineering, system design, and analytical projects using Microsoft Excel.
Salary and Additional Details
This internship pays $35/hr. The NBA offers a flexible work option with remote work available one day per week. For onsite work in New York and New Jersey offices, full COVID-19 vaccination is required (with possible accommodations).
