Analytics Engineer, Media
The NBA is seeking an Analytics Engineer, Media to bridge the gap between raw media data and the Fan Data Platform. This role ensures media data is transformed for advanced analytics, AI product development, and data enablement. Reporting to the Business Intelligence Platforms Lead, the Analytics Engineer will be the DSA's expert on media data from sources like Nielsen and media partners.
Position Summary
This role is crucial for transforming media and content consumption data into a standardized format. The Analytics Engineer, Media will ensure data is ready for advanced analytics, AI product development, and data enablement within the DSA-managed Fan Data Platform.
Major Responsibilities
- Oversee data modeling for all media and content related data at the NBA.
- Lead the migration of historical viewership data to the NBA’s central Fan Data Platform.
- Write business requirements for technical resources to ensure data products meet stakeholder needs.
- Develop and manage the semantic layer for media and content data for end-user analysts and data science models.
- Establish documentation using Alation and Confluence for media and content data.
- Lead QA efforts for media and content data, including developing tests, anomaly detection, and remediation processes.
- Serve as the internal subject-matter expert on media and content data, consulting with stakeholders and shaping projects.
- Collaborate with the DSA’s Data Science team on data modeling for advanced analytics and ML.
- Develop proprietary forecast models for game-level viewership, adaptable to player-level developments.
- Work with external media partners and third-party data providers to secure new data or analysis methods.
Required Skills/Knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to develop in collaborative git projects within cloud-based data infrastructure (e.g., Azure DevOps/GitHub, Snowflake/BigQuery/Redshift, dbt Cloud).
- Advanced understanding of structuring data from first-party media and content providers, as well as third-party syndicated providers.
- Advanced knowledge of Nielsen software such as NNTV and NPower (or similar).
- Extensive knowledge of content analysis across linear, digital, and SVOD/AVOD platforms.
- Deep knowledge of audience estimates, including the creation of forecasting methods or models.
Experience/Education
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a technical or quantitative field.
- 5+ years of experience delivering insights from syndicated media measurement tools and first-party data.
- Experience in sports, media, and entertainment is preferred but not required.
Work Option
The NBA currently provides eligible employees the option of working remotely one day per week.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $120,000 - $145,000 per year. Employees are eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus.
