Vice President, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO)
Natera is seeking a Vice President, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to lead its global cybersecurity program. This executive role is responsible for developing and implementing the company's end-to-end security strategy, managing risk, and protecting critical assets including technology platforms, intellectual property, and sensitive patient data.
Position Summary
The CISO will combine deep technical expertise in cybersecurity architecture, cloud security, and AI-driven platforms with executive leadership. This role requires embedding security into systems, data pipelines, and product development lifecycles, and translating complex cybersecurity risks into business terms for executive and Board-level decision-making. A key focus will be championing AI-assisted security operations, intelligent automation, and advanced analytics to transform cybersecurity delivery, improve detection and response, and increase operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and operate the enterprise cybersecurity program: strategy, architecture, operations, governance, and compliance.
- Establish a multi-year security roadmap aligned with business priorities, technology evolution, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive program maturity and continuous improvement across all cybersecurity domains.
- Ensure security integration into enterprise planning, product development, and operational execution.
- Develop and maintain a risk-based cybersecurity investment framework for prioritization and resource allocation.
- Lead architectural decisions for identity and access, data protection, network and zero-trust architectures, and secure platform design for clinical and genomic systems.
- Present regular updates on cyber risk posture, threat landscape, and program maturity to executive leadership and the Board.
- Define and execute a strategy for AI-assisted cybersecurity operations using machine learning, automation, and advanced analytics.
- Build a highly automated, intelligence-driven SecOps function to minimize manual intervention and improve threat identification/remediation.
- Drive adoption and optimization of modern security platforms (SIEM/SOAR, CNAPP/CSPM, EDR/XDR, Identity intelligence).
- Leverage AI/ML to enhance signal-to-noise ratio, detect anomalous behavior, and automate triage/investigation/response.
- Integrate AI capabilities into threat intelligence, vulnerability management, and risk analysis.
- Oversee enterprise security operations: monitoring, detection, and response; lead incident response and crisis management.
- Own compliance strategy across frameworks like SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST, and healthcare regulations (HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA).
Qualifications
- 20+ years of progressive cybersecurity leadership experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or related field (Advanced degree strongly preferred).
- Proven experience owning and operating an enterprise-wide cybersecurity program.
- Strong track record of building modern, engineering-led security organizations in cloud-native environments.
- Comfortable operating in high-growth, high-complexity environments.
- Deep, practical expertise in cloud security architecture, IAM, detection & response, application/API security, data security, DevSecOps.
- Strong balance of technical depth and strategic leadership.
- Hands-on experience implementing/operating AI-assisted security tools and automation frameworks.
- Demonstrated success engaging with executive leadership and Boards on cybersecurity risk and investment.
- Ability to translate cybersecurity complexities into executive and Board-level communications.
- Exceptional executive communication and storytelling skills.
- Proven ability to influence senior leadership and drive alignment on complex decisions.
Compensation & Total Rewards
This position is eligible for a base salary range of $257,600—$322,000 USD, plus Natera’s robust Total Rewards program including annual performance incentive bonus, long-term equity awards, comprehensive health benefits, 401(k) with company match, and generous paid time off.
