Job Description

Seasonal Environmental Sampler at NANA

NANA is seeking a Seasonal Environmental Sampler to conduct essential water sampling, soil sampling, and remediation work for clients across Alaska. This individual will be responsible for multimedia sampling, data reporting, and analysis efforts specifically for rural Alaskan projects. Primary duties include logistics coordination, meticulous sample collection, extensive travel, and rigorous fieldwork.

This role involves implementing fieldwork protocols and actively engaging with clients and regulatory bodies to ensure successful project execution.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead field sampling and data collection projects, potentially overseeing other employees or subcontractors.
  • Effectively interact with clients, focusing on permitting and environmental programs.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with clients, private industry, government officials, and support staff.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office, including document creation and data analysis.
  • Research and clearly explain environmental regulations, policies, or procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Successful completion of an environmental sampling training program recognized by DEC, or applied field work in environmental sample collection associated with an environmental science degree or related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least three months of environmental sampling experience under the direct supervision of a qualified environmental professional, completed after training.
  • Capability to research and explain regulations, policies, or procedures.
  • Travel 75-100% of the time to remote Alaska during the field sampling season (May - October).
  • Experience sampling surface water, groundwater, soil, and/or other media at diverse sites.
  • Proven experience conducting fieldwork in Alaska.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record for the past three years to meet company vehicle insurance eligibility.

Working Conditions And Physical Requirements

This role involves frequent exposure to moderate to harsh weather conditions, requiring work both indoors and outdoors. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate. Employees will frequently be at construction/project sites and occasionally in a standard office setting.

Physical demands include occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 30 lbs. Frequent requirements include sitting, standing, walking, using hands/fingers to handle or feel, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, talking/hearing, seeing, tasting/smell, and carrying/lifting weight.

Extensive travel (75-100% of the time) to remote areas of Alaska is required. This may involve using alternative modes of transportation such as snow machines, boats, small airplanes, and ATVs.
