Overview
The Assistant General Counsel - Privacy & Regulatory at Myriad Genetics works closely with the Legal and Compliance Teams to draft, implement, and oversee global privacy, regulatory, and legal compliance programs. The role ensures adherence to laws and regulations including HIPAA, CCPA, GDPR, and industry standards like CLIA and NYS requirements.
Responsibilities
- Serve as subject matter expert for privacy and data protection issues.
- Ensure appropriate privacy contract provisions (DPAs, BAAs, SCCs, TIAs).
- Monitor regulatory developments and lead cross-functional compliance projects.
- Advise on data-driven projects including data sharing, analytics, mobile apps, and AI.
- Review customer-facing materials for data protection and privacy alignment.
- Oversee privacy incident and breach response programs.
- Advise on technology use in digital marketing and online platforms.
- Coordinate with Information Security, GRC, and Government Affairs on diagnostics regulatory oversight.
- Assist with privacy operations, including DSARs, data mapping, and DPIAs.
- Support compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, and state-specific privacy laws and regulations.
- Provide legal advice on human subject research, IRB protocols, and informed consent.
- Advise on privacy and regulatory issues in collaborations, M&A transactions, and special projects.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate has a Juris Doctor degree with bar admission in good standing, ideally licensed or able to obtain a Utah license. With 7-10 years of relevant legal experience, including 3-5 years focused on privacy, regulatory compliance, and risk management, candidates should have a deep understanding of HIPAA/HITECH, the Common Rule, GDPR, and other privacy laws. Experience in the diagnostics industry and familiarity with CLIA and laboratory developed tests regulations is strongly preferred.
