The role of Head, BRM- BB and ME is to be the primary reference point within the Business Unit, facilitating and promoting the understanding of Operational Risk (OR) and compliance requirements. You will continuously evaluate and identify operational risk implications of business strategies and programmes, and provide guidance on any operational risk remediation with support from the Second Line Operational Risk (SORO) and respective risk owners. You will assist the Head - BRM in supporting Retail Banking COO initiatives and driving adoption at the country level. This position is responsible for adherence to specified Business As Usual (BAU) operational risk deadlines and leading/supporting the implementation of OR initiatives for the Business Unit. You will be accountable for ensuring Risk Acceptance requests are completed by process owners for material risks and control failures, and for providing these templates to the second line operational risk team for review and approval. A key responsibility includes the implementation of the Control Sample Testing (CST) process, sampling and testing controls for compliance and facilitating monitoring/collection of Key Control Indicators (KCIs). You will ensure the quality, accuracy, and completeness of information in the risk tracking system, driving timely resolution of outstanding actions. Furthermore, you will support the business in minimizing operational risks and losses, ensuring material operational losses are investigated to prevent recurrence. You will ensure risk ownership by Country Process Owners over centrally/GBS performed validation checks, specifically ownership of residual risk evaluations and remediation activities. You will identify non-standard processes, ensure appropriate control mechanisms are implemented and monitored, and proactively communicate with the Business Head and SORO on operational risk issues, escalating significant events as appropriate. You will coordinate and consolidate operational risk and loss reporting for the unit, ensuring data accuracy and completeness. You will design and implement control measures and monitoring plans for compliance and operational risk management, and undertake/coordinate periodic business monitoring (self-assessment) activities, escalating findings/breaches as they occur. This role may involve acting as the Unit Money Laundering Prevention Officer (UMLPO) or cooperating with the BMLPO, assisting in financial crime risk investigations where appropriate, and identifying knowledge gaps to arrange training on compliance and OR for staff. You will also carry out gap analysis between Group circulars, Regulatory circulars, and country process notes.

Risk Management

Responsible for guiding the business towards an advanced Operational Risk and Control Self-Assessment (ORCA) framework, driving improvements in average ORCA ratings. With guidance from Risk Owners and Process Owners, continuously identify and evaluate operational risks from new products, business initiatives, and regulatory changes, and implement appropriate controls. Responsible for mentoring Retail Banking - Business Banking staff and ensuring compliance with relevant policies. Challenge processes, procedures, and policies for improvement opportunities. Speak out on emerging risks, identify knowledge gaps, and facilitate training on Operational Risk. Participate in periodic peer reviews to ensure consistency in risk management approaches and embed best practices.

Governance

Monitor and track Issues and Events. Track actionable items from Internal and External Audits. Ensure reporting timelines are adhered to.

Ensure the effectiveness of controls and monitoring for operational risk and compliance risk prevention at the Business Unit level. Achieve satisfactory results on audits conducted by Group Internal Audit, regulators, and external auditors. Communicate changes in the regulatory environment and internal policies from Legal & Compliance and Operational Risk Management Group in a timely manner. Ensure timely reporting and escalation of all operational risk exposures. Act as a regulatory and process champion for the Business.
