These operations aim to increase and enhance the effectiveness of operational financial crime prevention and detection expertise and oversight by consolidating knowledge, capabilities, insight, and experience of its people, along with refined processes, training, and technologies. MUFG seeks ambitious, energetic, service-focused individuals with Financial Crime experience, dedicated to protecting customers and the wider global economy, while developing world-class anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) skills.
Main Purpose of the Role
As an Assistant Vice President, Financial Crime Operations Intelligence & Analytics, you will support the Financial Crime Operations team, delivering objectives for Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). Working within the Operations Intelligence & Analytics (I&A) team, your responsibilities include:
- Providing analytics support for developing, optimising, and modifying segmentation to improve transaction monitoring, detecting financial crime.
- Improving the design, tuning, and optimisation of automated monitoring and sanctions screening scenarios.
- Leveraging predictive analytics to drive enhancements in transaction monitoring and sanctions screening.
- Improving design, tuning, and optimization of transaction monitoring and sanctions screening systems.

Key Responsibilities
- Identify detection scenarios for financial crime.
- Provide analytics support for developing, tuning, optimising, and modifying segmentation to enhance transaction monitoring and sanctions screening systems.
- Tune and optimize AML, KYC, and sanctions screening models.
- Coordinate the implementation of financial crime detection scenarios.
- Support the development of policies and procedures for the AML transaction monitoring life cycle, including scenario validation, segmentation, and optimisation tool reviews.
- Support changes to the Sanctions Screening Systems Tuning and Optimization Procedure impacting sanction screening models and tuning.
- Support large strategic optimisation and segmentation programs to enhance and tune MUFG’s GFCD Transaction Monitoring and Sanctions Screening Programmes.
- Recommend customer segmentation and optimisation for MUFG’s GFCD monitoring system across multiple lines of business.
- Contribute to the development of models involving tuning, calibration, segmentation, and optimisation.
- Perform model validation, memorialising model selection rationales and defined assumptions.
- Coordinate with regional I&A teams for global model implementation.
- Collaborate across functional teams within GFCD to ensure effective and efficient operations with clearly defined roles and responsibilities.
- Prepare reports and related documentation for internal stakeholders, identifying transactional data analysis trends, scenario effectiveness, and risks, and making recommendations for improved tuning and optimization activities.
- Conduct ATL/BTL testing and interpret results for model performance.
Work Experience
Experience within a global bank, consulting firm, or regulatory agency is essential. A strong track record in AML and Sanctions Screening model tuning, data analytics, and/or compliance systems is required. Candidates should have experience working with transaction monitoring or sanctions screening platforms, regulatory submissions or model documentation for audits, and involvement in global or cross-regional model implementation.
Skills and Experience
Functional / Technical Competencies:
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, or R for data analysis.
- Comprehensive understanding of statistical sampling and model validation techniques.
- Well-developed understanding of regulatory expectations for model governance.
- Experience using vendor systems (e.g., Actimize, Hotscan, Siron).
- Solid understanding of machine learning techniques (e.g., decision trees, neural networks), entity resolution, and similar data science domain expertise.
- Experience managing stakeholder relationships within and outside of the local function/role.
- Knowledge of a wide variety of financial crimes compliance laws and regulations.
- Excellent judgment and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Education / Qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent industry standard qualification.
- Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), Certified Global Sanctions Specialist (CGSS), or equivalent preferred.

Performance and Duties
The role holder will be assessed according to their employing entity’s performance framework, with input from the dual-hatting entity as relevant. The job description will be reviewed and amended in consultation with the role holder as duties and responsibilities change. Other duties within the scope and spirit of the role may be requested. This role may involve international travel.
Managing Conflicts of Interest
The role holder will have responsibilities for both MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc. Duties must be performed on an entity-neutral basis without favor, adhering to applicable regulatory requirements to support each business and maintain legal entity integrity. Working terms are dictated by functional mandates and relevant agreements. The role holder will identify and resolve potential conflicts in needs between MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc, escalating to their manager when required.
