About the Role
A Nurse Practitioner (NP) at Mount Sinai Health System is a Registered Nurse (RN) with advanced clinical nursing education and certification in a distinct specialty area. As an independent practitioner, you will diagnose, treat, and prescribe for patients within your specialty area of practice. This role operates within the Clinical Neurosciences Center and is part-time, with day shifts.
Responsibilities
CLINICAL PRACTICE
- Assess the health status of patients and families through comprehensive health history and physical examinations.
- Initiate and order diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations; prescribe medication regimens, interpret findings, and adjust care plans according to accepted standards.
- Educate and counsel patients on health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses.
- Document findings and care plans in patient medical records.
- Consult with physicians according to established policies and protocols.
- Provide age-appropriate care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety criteria.
- Initiate referrals to specialty services and ensure continuity of care.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to enhance care delivery.
- Maintain patient and employee confidentiality.
- Develop and record client responses to the plan of care.
- Complete required proctoring evaluations for credentialing status.
- Practice as a member of the allied health staff in accordance with Medical Staff bylaws.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Support the mission, vision, and goals of the Department of Nursing and MSHS.
- Demonstrate accountability for nursing practice and advocate for patients and families.
- Address ethical issues and adhere to the code of ethics.

Qualifications
- New York State License with current registration as a registered nurse.
- New York State Department of Education certification as a Nurse Practitioner with current registration.
- Graduate of a New York State registered Nurse Practitioner Program or equivalent, OR certified by a national association via examination.
- Completed required pharmacy component and New York State/Federal Laws course.
- Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if less than 3600 hours of experience, OR Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment if > 3600 hours.
- Master's degree program for NP or equivalent post-Masters certificate.
- Previous progressive experience relevant to the area of clinical practice.
- National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing required for hires effective June 1, 2019 (may be deferred up to 1 year with approval).
- Credentialed through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board.
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), etc., as required by specialty.
- At least two years of nursing experience in specialty practice; at least one year of Nurse Practitioner experience preferred.
