About the role
Mortenson is seeking a passionate Safety Engineer I or II - Civil.
This role involves implementing Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety program at a project site to ensure a safe work environment for all team members, subcontractors, and visitors. The ideal candidate will be flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient, maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality while interacting with staff at various levels in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Implementing and administering safety programs at worksites.
- Developing site-specific safety activities and conducting safety orientations/training.
- Documenting and tracking safety violations, conducting safety audits, and analyzing safety data.
- Assisting with major incident analysis and managing OSHA reporting.
- Reviewing safety submittals and monitoring trade partner work plans.
- Assisting with onsite injury management and organizing safety celebrations.
- Participating in project planning and hazard analysis.
- Providing safety-related information and evaluating industrial hygiene concerns.
- Maintaining knowledge of safety standards and regulations, serving as a safety resource.
- Attending and chairing safety meetings.
- Collaborating with client safety personnel, union representatives, and insurance risk engineers.
- Accompanying safety, health, and OSHA personnel on tours.
- Ensuring the maintenance of safety equipment and managing PPE and safety budgets.
- Building effective relationships with diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or associate degree in occupational safety, health, or related field preferred.
- Alternatively, a High school diploma with CHST or STS certification, OSHA 30 Hour training, and a minimum of five years of construction experience.
- Previous related internship experience is a plus.
- Must possess a current driver’s license.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety-related software programs.

Safety Engineer I Minimum Qualifications:

- Base pay range: $78,800 - $98,500.
Safety Engineer II Minimum Qualifications:
- One year of related experience in addition to the general qualifications.
- Base pay range: $81,800 - $110,400.
- Higher base pay ranges apply for Denver, CO; Chicago, IL (5%); Seattle, WA; Portland, OR (10%); and Washington, D.C. (12.5%).
