The Institutional Equity Division (IED) at Morgan Stanley is a recognized leader in the origination, distribution, and trading of equity, equity-linked, and equity-derivative securities. Through deep client relationships, a market-leading platform, and intellectual insights, we provide world-class service to clients for their financing, market access, and portfolio management requirements.
The Global Markets Group, based in India, serves as the offshoring arm for Morgan Stanley’s Sales & Trading businesses, encompassing functions within IED such as sales, trading, analytics, strats, and risk management.
Primary Responsibilities of a Vice President, Derivatives Platform Strats
This role is situated within the DerivStrats arm of the Institutional Securities group, where candidates will combine extensive market understanding with deep knowledge of structured products and their pricing. We seek a proactive, self-starting individual to join our India team, collaborating with the Derivatives Platform Strats team. This is a challenging opportunity that provides exposure to an engaging, dynamic product group and an environment conducive to significant career growth.
What You’ll Do In The Role:
- Contribute to the end-to-end development of our vanilla and structured products platform, from initial product modeling and pricing to order execution and life cycle events.
- Ensure accurate internal representation of financial products.
- Work collaboratively with traders, sales teams, financial engineers, technologists, and global strats teams to strategize the onboarding of new products and determine competitive pricing.
- Maintain regular communication with team members based in Hong Kong (HK) and Paris.
Leadership, Stakeholder & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Derivatives Platform Strats team in Mumbai.
- Cultivate a culture of collaboration and efficiency, ensuring the team delivers top-tier support to the trading desk.
- Monitor team performance, provide feedback, and oversee resource planning, recruitment, and staff training.
- Forge strong relationships with Trading desks, Risk, Compliance, and Technology teams.
- Act as a key liaison between the Strats team, Trading desk, and other departments to effectively resolve issues and implement solutions.
- Regularly report on key metrics and performance to senior management.
- Strategize to expand Morgan Stanley’s Mumbai footprint.
What You’ll Bring To The Role
- An advanced degree in a quantitative discipline such as BE, BTech in Computer Science, or an MS in Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or Financial Engineering, obtained from Tier 1 or Tier 2 institutions.
- Strong programming proficiency across multiple languages, including Java, C++, C#, Python, and KDB.
- Progress towards a CFA designation is preferred.
- Essential knowledge of equity derivatives and structured products.
- 7-10 years of relevant professional experience within a Tier 1 investment bank.
- Ability to flexibly adapt to changing priorities, communicate complex results to non-technical audiences, excel in a team environment, and thrive in a front office setting.
