U.S. Tax Compliance Director at Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley is seeking a Director in the Tax Department to oversee U.S. tax compliance and reporting processes. This role involves coordinating with various stakeholders, including internal and external tax advisors, Business Units, operations, and investor relations. As part of the Finance division, you will partner with global business units, providing management, review, analysis, and advisory services related to the Firm's financial and capital resources. This Director-level position ensures compliance with income and indirect tax filings, reports tax information for regulatory filings, manages global tax authority relationships, and monitors relevant tax regulations and legislation. Additional responsibilities include managing domestic and international tax strategies, determining transfer pricing policies, and advising Senior Management and Business Units on business products, strategic transactions, and restructuring objectives.

What You'll Do In The Role
- Collaborate with a diverse group of colleagues within Finance and across the Firm.
- Lead aspects of individual and team deliverables and projects, leveraging strong knowledge of investment products, such as funds.
- Adhere to the Firm's risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls; proactively identify ways to reduce risk.
- Act as a culture carrier, embodying the Firm's values and holding yourself and others accountable.
- Help manage and administer tax engagements with service providers.
- Assist with high-level review of Federal, State, and Local tax compliance prepared by tax service providers, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Assist with tax calendars, scheduling deliverables, and processing payments to taxing authorities.
- Collaborate with consultants, Controllers, and other support groups to gather necessary information.
- Assist with the audit of fund financial statements and recurring tax provision processes.
- Collaborate with consultants and service providers on federal and state and local tax audits or inquiries; prepare responses to tax notices.
- Assist with FATCA / CRS reporting and related engagements with service providers.
- Develop and maintain relationships with various other departments.
What You'll Bring To The Role
- Strong knowledge of investment products, such as funds (including partnerships), and robust technical skills.
- Ability to operate independently with respect to most job responsibilities.
- Ability to provide positive and constructive feedback and innovate processes.
- Motivated, team-oriented self-starter seeking exposure to a broad range of tax issues, capable of working effectively and efficiently with all levels of personnel in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Willingness to be hands-on as well as a desire to manage special projects.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong oral and written communications skills are a plus.
- A minimum of three to five years of tax experience, with public accounting experience a plus.
- Prior experience in supervising positions is a plus.
- Strong systems skills, particularly Microsoft Office, are required.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required; Master in Tax a plus but not required.
- Certification as a CPA is a plus.
