About the role
Market Risk Senior Associate
Morgan Stanley's Institutional Equity Division (IED) is seeking a Senior Associate for their Market Risk team in Mumbai. This role involves supporting various equity businesses, including sales, trading, analytics, strats, and risk management. The team actively manages risk for clients by analyzing portfolios and transactions to anticipate potential losses and ensure adequate funding.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct risk analysis using Stress Testing, VaR, Backtesting, and other measures.
- Upload and analyze sample prospective portfolios across various financial products (Equities, Convertible Bonds, Corporate Bonds, Swaps, Options, Futures) using internal and external data sources like Bloomberg.
- Analyze live client portfolios, identify risk issues, and recommend margin policy changes.
- Perform risk analysis for funds, considering factors like Liquidity and Concentration.
- Prepare Senior Management Risk Reports and perform Trend Analysis for businesses, creating bespoke reports as needed.
- Conduct risk analysis based on strategy, country, sector, or other market-based events.
- Streamline, automate, and build tools for internal risk management.
- Liaise with regional stakeholders (Risk, Margin, Credit, IT) for periodic risk deliverables.
- Participate in global risk projects in Mumbai, including requirements gathering, development, testing, and validation.
Primary/Required Skills:
- Graduate degree in Mathematics or Engineering with strong analytical skills.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in the Finance industry.
- FRM / CFA (at least Level 1 completed) or MBA Finance.
- In-depth understanding of Financial Products/Markets (Equities, Options, Futures, Bonds, Commodities, Rates, Credit) and associated risks.
- Working knowledge in VBA, Python, KDB, or R, or ability to analyze large datasets using SQL, Excel, Power BI.
- Strong analytical skills and a hands-on problem-solving approach.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills and high attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a complex, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to mentor/guide juniors in the team.
