We are seeking a motivated Data Engineer to join our Prime Brokerage and Securities Financing Technology groups at Morgan Stanley. This role is critical to designing, building, and optimizing robust ETL processes that enhance data availability, reliability, and performance across the organization.
In the Technology division, we leverage innovation to build the connections and capabilities that power our Firm, enabling our clients and colleagues to redefine markets and shape the future of our communities.
As a Data Engineer, you will play a vital role in implementing scalable data pipelines, integrating data across multiple platforms—including Snowflake and DB2—and contributing to our broader data strategy. You will be at the forefront of ensuring data quality, accessibility, and integrity across diverse business units and technology ecosystems.

What You’ll Do In The Role
- ETL Development & Optimization: Design, build, and maintain end‑to‑end ETL workflows across Snowflake, DB2, and other enterprise data platforms
- Data Pipeline Engineering: Implement scalable, reliable, and high‑performance data processes to support analytics, reporting, and downstream consumption
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with senior technologists and SMEs to understand data requirements and translate them into efficient engineering solutions
- Data Integration Initiatives: Partner with technology teams to enhance data flows, streamline ingestion processes, and improve data quality
- System Interoperability: Analyze how systems interact and build integrations that improve data movement and consistency
- Data Quality Assurance: Implement validation rules, monitoring, and automated quality checks within ETL workflows
- Compliance & Risk Alignment: Ensure data handling practices comply with regulatory and internal standards
- Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate findings, proposed enhancements, and engineering recommendations to technology and business stakeholders
- Process & Tooling Improvement: Continuously refine ETL frameworks, development standards, and automation approaches
- Knowledge Sharing: Support teams by explaining data engineering best practices, tools, and platform capabilities
What You'll Bring To The Role
- Technical Foundation: Understanding of data engineering principles, database concepts, and data architecture fundamentals
- Analytical Mindset: Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex data and system issues
- Perseverance: Determination to work through challenging engineering problems and ambiguous requirements
- Collaboration Skills: Ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams and engage stakeholders at all levels
- Interest in Prime Brokerage Business: Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning Prime Brokerage operations, client services, and technology flows
- Data Platforms: Experience with Snowflake and/or DB2, plus understanding of relational databases (SQL), data warehousing, and ETL concepts
- Programming Languages: Python
- BI tools: Power BI and Qlik are plus
- Version Control: Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows
- Attention to Detail: Strong engineering discipline with focus on accuracy and reliability
- Curiosity: Eagerness to explore how systems work and how data moves across them
- Adaptability: Comfortable operating in dynamic, fast‑changing environments
- Critical Thinking: Strong capability to analyze issues and design sound technical solutions
- Experience Level: Mid to senior level (5+ years of experience)
