Job Description

About Monzo

We’re on a mission to make money work for everyone. Monzo is waving goodbye to the complicated and confusing ways of traditional banking. Starting as a prepaid card, our product offering has grown significantly over the last 10 years in the UK. We now offer personal and business bank accounts, joint accounts, accounts for 16-17 year olds, a free kids account, and credit cards in the UK, with more exciting innovations on the horizon. Our UK customers can also save, invest, and combine their pensions with us.

Known for our hot coral cards and get-paid-early feature, combined with financial education on social media and award-winning customer service, we have a long history of creating magical moments for our customers! At Monzo, we’re not about selling products; we want to solve problems and change lives.

The Role: Staff Technical Program Manager, Platform

At Monzo, our mission is to make money work for everyone, everywhere. We're seeking a Staff Technical Program Manager to lead critical Platform initiatives that underpin everything we build. This high-impact role supports two major portfolios: our Data Platform evolution and our Platform resiliency programme. It benefits from both deep technical understanding and strong cross-team leadership to coordinate horizontal projects across multiple collectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end planning and execution of major platform programs that cross multiple teams and markets.
  • Manage complex cross-collective programs by defining roadmaps and milestones, setting priorities, managing trade-offs, identifying and managing critical paths and risks, and ensuring alignment with business goals and technical strategy.
  • Navigate dependencies, timelines, and sequencing across Platform squads and Monzo Collectives.
  • Balance technical depth with program breadth, understanding both data infrastructure and distributed systems challenges.
  • Drive effective decision-making to remove blockers and maintain momentum across long-running infrastructure programmes.
  • Shape operational effectiveness and engineering culture, particularly around reliability, incident management readiness, and data governance practices.

What We're Looking For

  • You have 5+ years of experience managing complex technology programs from inception to launch.
  • You can communicate clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences, from engineers to executives, translating between technical details and business impact.
  • You excel at coordinating work across multiple teams, managing dependencies in complex technical programmes where culture and tooling matter as much as technical changes.
  • You build trust and influence without direct authority and are comfortable constructively challenging technical approaches.
  • You're comfortable diving into data, metrics, and technical documentation to make informed decisions in ambiguous situations.
  • You have experience driving both technical delivery and organisational change, particularly around infrastructure, system resilience, or data governance.

The Interview Process

Our hiring process typically takes around 3-4 weeks, accommodating your availability. You’ll have continuous communication with our recruitment team. For questions, email tech-hiring@monzo.com.

  • Recruiter Call (30 mins): Discuss your experience with our Engineering Leadership Recruiter and learn more about Monzo.
  • Initial Call (45 mins): Meet an engineering leader to discuss program execution and technical leadership.
  • Loop Stage (3 hours): Consists of 3 x 60-minute interviews over 1-2 days, focusing on various competencies.

What’s In It For You

  • Competitive base salary, equity, and stock options.
  • Relocation assistance to the UK and visa sponsorship available.
  • This role can be based in our London office, or distributed working within the UK (with ad hoc meetings in London).
  • Flexible working hours; we trust you to manage your time effectively.
  • £1,000 annual learning budget for books, training, and conferences.
  • Access to a comprehensive list of additional benefits.
