About the Role
Monroe University is seeking a dedicated Security Officer to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our entire campus community. You will be responsible for patrols, public safety presence, and responding to various situations to safeguard life, property, and assets.
Responsibilities
- Patrol designated buildings, grounds, facilities, and installations on campus to preserve a peaceful atmosphere.
- Provide a public safety presence to maintain order and safeguard life, property, and assets against fire, theft, vandalism, etc.
- Operate electronic surveillance systems as needed.
- Provide information and assistance to faculty, staff, students, and visitors, directing them to appropriate individuals and/or areas.
- Offer personal safety presence when rendering escort services, which may include opening doors or driving motor vehicles.
- Conduct identification checks as appropriate.
- Manage crowd duties, reprimand, and eject loiterers, disorderly persons, and others not adhering to university regulations.
- Perform key lock duties for offices, labs, classrooms, etc., locking and unlocking areas as instructed, and securing buildings.
- Contact superior officers in situations requiring outside assistance (e.g., Fire, Police, Ambulance).
- Contact superior officers when unsafe or hazardous conditions are observed on campus.
- Prepare reports and maintain appropriate logs of activities and incidents.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience
- Ability to relate to and gain confidence and cooperation of the academic community.
- Skill in dealing tactfully and effectively with a wide range of people.
- Ability to remain calm and rational in an emergency.
- Ability to mediate minor disputes.
- Skill in evaluating threats to public safety and ensuring they are communicated to proper authorities or handled appropriately.
