Job Description

About the Role

MongoDB is seeking a Strategic Events Manager to join its Global Strategic Events team. This role will primarily focus on planning and executing strategic events in the AMER region, while also supporting global priority programs and collaborating with various MongoDB teams to deliver impactful event experiences aligned with business objectives.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and a strong operational leader capable of translating global objectives into exceptional execution. This position requires a deep understanding of customer experience beyond just logistics, with a keen eye for detail in every aspect of program execution.

Who You Are

You prioritize customer experience and are detail-oriented in all aspects of event planning, from registration to room setup. You are honest about what's working and what isn't, making decisions under pressure and taking ownership of outcomes. You manage your responsibilities independently while knowing when to involve others, and you escalate issues effectively.

This role is for individuals who are serious about their work, committed to excellence, and thrive in a collaborative environment. If this sounds like your ideal workplace, you'll fit right in.

Responsibilities

Program Ownership and Execution

  • Lead end-to-end planning and execution of assigned programs, focusing on AMER flagship and high-complexity sponsored events.
  • Make independent decisions within established policy guidelines.
  • Drive coordination across all program components, including event messaging, marketing, materials creation, branding, contract negotiation, vendor management, site selection, venue coordination, registration, attendee management, agenda planning, speaker support, staffing, on-site production, F&B, and post-event reporting.
  • Apply judgment to identify and resolve operational issues, communicate decisions, and manage trade-offs with stakeholders.
  • Support global programs as assigned and collaborate with regional counterparts.

Cross-functional Alignment

  • Drive alignment with Revenue Marketing, Developer Relations, Engineering, Executive Support, and other teams.
  • Escalate decisions that extend beyond program scope or require cross-team policy input.
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Event Operations team on campaign creation, lead flow management, and sponsorship sales.
  • Communicate program status, risks, and trade-offs proactively to internal stakeholders.

Budget and Performance

  • Own budgets for assigned events and track spending against plans.
  • Evaluate program ROI and deliver post-event reports with insights and recommendations.
  • Contribute analysis and learnings to broader planning discussions.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement program improvements.
  • Share learnings and propose process refinements to team members.
  • Escalate cross-team risks and policy exceptions with clear recommendations.

Success Measures

  • Event registrations, attendance, and pipeline generated.
  • Customer satisfaction (NPS).
  • Program delivery quality, predictability, and on-time execution.
  • Program growth and scalability over time.
  • Cross-functional stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Embodiment of MongoDB's Core Values.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of event marketing, event management, or field marketing experience.
  • Proven track record of leading complex events end-to-end with a high degree of independence.
  • Strong project management skills with a data-driven approach to performance and ROI.
  • Experience driving cross-functional alignment across marketing, sales, and technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable communicating trade-offs and escalating risks to senior stakeholders.
  • Experience working independently in a global, distributed team environment.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Slack, Zoom, and Cvent.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25% domestically and globally.

Bonus Points

  • Experience in technology or SaaS environments.
  • Fluency in a second language.
  • Certified Meeting Professional (CMP).
  • Familiarity with Salesforce, Jifflenow, Splash, Jira, Tableau, Wrike, or Microsoft Office.
