The Engineering Manager Query role is essential in building a world-class distributed open-source query processing engine for MongoDB Atlas. This engine is fundamental for optimizing how queries are parsed, optimized, planned, and executed.

Location & Work Arrangement

We operate from multiple offices including New York, Dublin, Berlin, Palo Alto, and Chicago, and support both office-based and remote work. This role can be based out of our US or Canadian offices or remotely in North America.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 4-8 engineers in the query engine domain.
  • Contribute code, guide design, and enforce high quality standards.
  • Collaborate with product and broader Query engineering teams.
  • Mentor and recruit top engineering talent.
  • Ensure robust lifecycle management from query parsing to execution.

Candidate Profile

  • 8+ years of professional experience with a background in managing teams.
  • Technical leadership with hands-on coding in C++ or similar languages.
  • Strong communication, mentoring, and inclusive team building skills.
  • Solid understanding of data management systems and database query theory.

Position Expectations and Success Measures

The candidate will be responsible for team success, timely feature delivery, and high code quality. Success is measured in short term (3 months), mid term (6 months), and long term (12 months) milestones including team integration, architectural contributions, and professional development.
