Job Description

About MOIA and the Data Foundation Team

Join MOIA as a Data Engineer in our Data Foundation team and help shape the future of autonomous mobility. The Data Foundation team bridges the gap between raw data and refined data products, providing an accessible and easy-to-use data model. We emphasize collaboration, shared contribution, and enabling other teams to create the data products they need. Our team is small, open-minded, and comprises backgrounds in data engineering, analytics, and data science, fostering open communication, fun, and authenticity.

What You Will Do

  • Be an Engineer: Improve custom data operation tooling, focusing on developer experience.
  • Work closely with the data platform team to bootstrap new data services, implementing necessary infrastructure while ensuring data security and protection.
  • Facilitate standard software practices like CI/CD, test data quality, improve data observability, and ensure data modularity (DevOps mindset).
  • Design and implement scalable data pipelines using dbt and Python.
  • Be a Team Player: Enable product teams to build their own data products within the data foundation framework.
  • Provide support through onboarding sessions, consulting, or documentation.
  • Pair with other team members on complex coding challenges or process improvements, maintaining a fun environment.

What Will Help You Fulfill Your Role

You should have a background in data engineering, analytics engineering, or software engineering. Fluency in Python, SQL, and Git is essential, along with a deep understanding of production-grade data engineering concepts such as data contracts, schema evolution, idempotency, and failure-state management. Knowledge of dbt (or similar tools like sqlmesh) in combination with an orchestrator like Airflow or Dagster is highly valued. Experience with semantic layers and tools like CubeJS is a significant plus.

You know how to implement and ship software changes incrementally, with quick iterations and feedback loops, utilizing CI/CD and testing (e.g., GitHub Actions). You are willing to investigate and fix failing services, with experience in observability and monitoring being a nice-to-have. Previous work on infrastructure projects and familiarity with cloud providers such as AWS, GCP, or Azure is important. If "Athena" means more than a Greek goddess's name to you, you'll fit right in. Familiarity with data modeling practices (e.g., Kimball, Star, 3NF, Data Vault) and architecting long-lasting data architecture is also a nice-to-have.

You are comfortable engaging in stakeholder meetings, organizing workshops, reviews, or onboarding sessions with colleagues. You thrive in a small team with close communication, mutual appreciation, and occasional meme exchanges.
