Business Unit Control
Millennium Management is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Business Unit Control professional to join our Operations & Middle Office team in New York. This individual will play a critical role in the daily oversight, control, and reporting of financing P & L across all asset classes, serving as a key liaison between Portfolio Managers, senior leadership, and cross-functional teams across the firm. This is a high-visibility role that sits at the intersection of finance, operations, and technology, offering the opportunity to work directly with some of the most sophisticated investment professionals in the industry. The ideal candidate is analytically rigorous, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.Principal Responsibilities
- Daily P & L Production & Analysis: Own the end-to-end T+1 financing P & L process, delivering timely and accurate P & L explains, variance commentary, and attribution analysis across all asset classes. Ensure all P & L movements are fully understood, clearly documented, and communicated to relevant stakeholders in a structured and transparent manner.
- PM Interface: Serve as the primary point of contact for Portfolio Managers on all financing-related queries. Build and maintain strong working relationships with investment professionals, providing clear and concise responses to ad hoc requests and ensuring PMs have full transparency into their financing costs, positions, and daily P & L drivers.
- Centralized Controls & Validation: Act as a central control function by coordinating across Operations, Middle Office, Finance, and Technology teams to validate and reconcile all inputs used in the calculation of daily financing. Proactively identify and resolve breaks, discrepancies, and data quality issues in a timely manner to ensure the integrity of all P & L inputs and outputs.
- Senior Management Reporting: Prepare and deliver high-quality daily and weekly reporting packages and analytics for the senior management team. Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights, highlighting key trends, risks, and anomalies. Present findings in a structured and professional manner to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Process Improvement & Project Work: Drive the continuous enhancement of existing tools, workflows, and reporting infrastructure. Lead and contribute to both short and long-term strategic initiatives, including new system builds, automation projects, and process re-engineering efforts that improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability across the team. Partner closely with Technology and Operations teams to deliver impactful solutions.
Qualifications & Skills Required
- 5+ years of relevant experience in Portfolio Finance, Product Control, or P & L production within a financial services environment; hedge fund or investment bank experience strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of successfully interacting cross-functionally, specifically with investment professionals, trading desks, and senior management.
- Deep expertise across the following areas:
- Risk-Based P & L Explained & P & L Attribution across multiple asset classes including equities, fixed income, derivatives, and FX.
- T+1 P & L production — experience owning the full daily P & L cycle from data collection through final delivery.
- Intraday and end-of-day P & L support and reporting in a live trading environment.
- P & L controls and reconciliations — ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency of all financial data across systems.
- General ledger and accounting data — ability to understand, reconcile, and articulate P & L against the firm's books and records.
- Senior Management reporting — experience preparing executive-level deliverables that are accurate, insightful, and visually compelling.
- Automation and process improvement — demonstrated ability to identify operational inefficiencies and design and implement scalable solutions.
- Advanced Excel skills required — ability to build, maintain, and enhance complex financial models, pivot analyses, and reporting tools.
- Experience with Murex, Geneva, or Imagine is a strong plus.
- Proficiency in SQL for data extraction, validation, and analysis; Visio and PowerPoint skills preferred.
- Demonstrated initiative, intellectual curiosity, and a proactive problem-solving mindset — ability to identify issues before they escalate and drive solutions independently.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the proven ability to present complex financial information clearly and confidently to individuals at all levels of the organization.
